Deep Tissue

Deep tissue massage is a focused therapy that applies slow, firm pressure to release chronic tension in deeper muscle and connective tissue layers. It’s ideal for active individuals or those with persistent pain, like athletes or people recovering from injuries.

• Targets deeper muscle and connective tissue layers.
• Uses slow strokes and deep pressure (fingers, palms, forearms) to release chronic tension.
• Follows or crosses muscle grain to tackle pain and stiffness from injuries or strain.
• Often moderate to firm pressure, though adaptable to your needs.

Deep tissue massage is a specialized therapy focused on reaching the deeper layers of muscles and connective tissues. It seeks to relieve chronic muscle tension through deliberate, slow strokes and deep pressure applied with fingers, palms, or forearms to contracted areas. The strokes may align with the muscle grain or work across it—known as cross-fiber friction—engaging muscles, tendons, and fascia. Frequently employed to address musculoskeletal concerns, such as injury-related compensation, this massage effectively reduces pain and stiffness. While clients typically request moderate to firm pressure for deep tissue work, the technique doesn’t inherently demand it; therapists often note that some seeking “deep tissue” actually desire a Swedish massage with firmer pressure, a distinction we tactfully navigate.
